Our executive committee was saddened to learn of Janet Bigelow’s recent passing – she was well known to many members of our local, through CUPE BC and NADC. Information on the upcoming memorial service and mass are on this calendar.

Prince George residents and CUPE members across BC and Canada are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of CUPE Local 1048 President, Sister Janet Bigelow.
A powerful representative of City of Prince George employees and a defender of quality public services, a strong voice on the North Central Labour Council, and an important community activist, Janet’s positive impact on her union and her community will be felt for many years to come.
Janet played a central role in organizing and mobilizing voters to elect a progressive majority city council in the last local government elections, where all CUPE and Labour endorsed candidates were elected. Her service on the CUPE BC executive board, as well as many committees at the provincial and national level made our union better, stronger, more inclusive and more democratic.
Our thoughts are with her family who she loved and who loved her. We know Janet and her family were very grateful for all of the love and support they have received during her long battle with cancer. We will provide more information on ways to celebrate Janet’s life when they are known.
Janet, you will be profoundly missed. Rest in power Sister
